The Way Home: Music of Refuge - Streaming Event

SPM pulled out all the stops, glorying in the powerful emotions, contrasts, and colorful sound worlds of a full-blown symphonic-choral score. It’s not often we get to hear them perform on this scale — and the results were nothing short of thrilling.
— Thomas May, Memeteria

The Way Home honors America’s cultural heritage in a way that seeks to foster a mutual respect for the values of all persons and groups—including immigrants and refugees—as well as enrich our humanity by broadening our understanding of ourselves. Music from trailblazing young composers such as Saunder Choi, Melissa Dunphy, Caroline Shaw, and Derrick Skye explore the peril and helplessness faced by many refugees, while songs from the beginning of the millennium connect similar experiences across human history.

Access to our streaming events includes premiere event and on-demand concert broadcast access for 30 days following the premiere.

POSTPONED: Ethel Smyth & W.A. Mozart

— Thomas May, Memeteria

British composer Ethel Smyth’s Mass in D for choir, orchestra, and soloists is a monumental achievement. Written in the mid-19th century, it was dismissed by critics who deemed female composers unequal to their male counterparts. Seattle Pro Musica hails this stunning and seldom-heard piece as more than equal.

We pair this groundbreaking work with Mozart’s beloved “Great” Mass in C minor for one performance only in the magnificent acoustic of St. James Cathedral.
