Winter Rose at Bastyr - 3pm

The “winter rose” – also called the “Christmas rose” or “snow rose” – is known for blooming during the darkest days of winter in the mountains of Central Europe. Our holiday concert celebrates the light and hope symbolized by the winter rose with such favorites as Lo, how a rose e’er blooming by Praetorius and A spotless rose by Herbert Howells.

Berlioz’s Requiem shakes the earth below and soars to the heavens above, all while surrounding us with a profusion of orchestral and choral colors. This glorious work unites the spiritual and physical aspects of sound like nothing else in music.

Seattle Pro Musica joins the Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Chorale, and tenor Kenneth Tarver for performances of this extraordinary work on November 9 and 11.

Tickets are currently available as part of a Seattle Symphony Orchestra season subscription.

Dona nobis pacem - May 19

Written between World War I and II, Dona nobis pacem (Grant us peace) is one of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ most significant works. It is an impassioned plea for peace that blends Biblical text with the emotionally-charged anti-war poetry of Walt Whitman to create a searing indictment of the tragedy of war.
